New seat

You may have noticed that we now have a new seat in the churchyard beside the Garden of Rest.

This was dedicated in October of this year to the memory of Bert & Nellie Gregory and Bob & Alice Briginshaw

Herbert Gregory 1904 - 1982
Nellie Gregory (nee Briginshaw) 1906 - 1989
Robert Briginshaw 1908 - 1982
Alice Briginshaw (nee Mitchell) 1913 - 2007

Nellie & Bob, with their 3 sisters Doris, Bessie and Joan, lived their early years in West Molesey, first in the High Street and then Faraday Road.

Bert lived in Twickenham and Alice in Hampton Hill.

Nellie worked at a Lyons Corner House, where we believe she met Bert. She then worked at Pimms Garden Centre in West Molesey. Bert & Nellie married at St Peter's Church in 1920s and moved to 14 Green Lane, West Molesey. They had 4 children, Kenneth, Diana, David and Martin, from whom they had 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren

Bob met Alice at a Lyons Corner House Restaurant where she worked. They married in 1935 and moved to Berkeley Drive, West Molesey. They had a daughter Carole, who in 1962 married her husband Don at St Peter’s Church and had 2 children.

During World War 2 the Molesey area was hit many times by bombing raids. Fortunately all family members survived.

During that time Bob served in the RAF and Bert worked at the Vickers Aircraft Factory in Weybridge.

After the war Bob worked for his brother-in-law Don Bright, at his Willow Tools Engineering.

Bert ran a landscape gardening business in Claygate Lane, Thames Ditton with his eldest son Kenneth.

During the 1968 Molesey floods, Bob & Alice were rescued by the army and taken to a safe refuge in Esher. Bert & Nellie however managed to remain at home in Green Lane as only the ground floor was flooded.

In retirement, Bert & Nellie moved to Hampshire with their son David.

Bob & Alice moved to Lincolnshire. After Bob passed away in 1982, Alice moved to Worthing and then to Basingstoke to live with Carole and, Don.
