The Editor's Letter(by Val Luck)
Welcome to the Advent and Christmas edition of Cross Keys. Yes, I’m afraid it really is that time already!
This is a busy time of year for us, with all the special services, the Autumn Study Group and the Christmas Fair, so we get plenty of opportunities to meet together as a family both for prayer and for socialising, so I hope to see a lot of you all. In addition, this year we are putting on a performance of “Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo”, a musical take on the story of Noah’s Ark and the flood, hopefully in conjunction with the other Molesey Churches. We hope you will support it. Details of this and other events, and the special Christmas Services are to be found elsewhere in this edition of “Cross Keys”.
Besides its importance as a run-up to Christmas, Advent is important in its own right as a time when we reflect on and look forward to Christ’s Second Coming, which is promised to us throughout the New Testament. We don’t know when it will be - Jesus himself, when on earth, said even he didn’t know, but we are warned to be ready at all times, as it could be any time. People are telling us constantly that we are in the Last Days, that all the signs are there. Yes, they are, and maybe we are, but a word of caution: the signs have always all been there. We must be ready, though, and it is good to contemplate these things from time to time. It focuses the mind wonderfully on what really matters!
Finally, I wish you all a very happy Christmas.
Val
